Analysis of the causes of fading and aging of edge banding

In daily life, PVC edge banding plays a vital role in sealing and protecting the edges of furniture, and it is a widely used furniture material in modern homes. With increasing years of use, PVC edge banding inevitably experiences fading and aging, which not only affects the aesthetics of the furniture but also its lifespan. When encountering problems like aging and fading in edge banding, our first step is to analyze whether it's due to quality issues. Some manufacturers on the market, in order to save costs, often cut corners in processing, resulting in deficiencies in the necessary anti-aging materials for PVC edge banding. However, every stage of the PVC edge banding production process is closely related to the quality of the finished product. For example, the base material pigments and printing inks, which significantly affect discoloration and aging, may be insufficient in these processing materials, potentially leading to fading and aging problems during future use.

Secondly, inadequate maintenance during use can also cause these problems. Exposure to strong sunlight and high temperatures are common causes of aging and discoloration. When PVC edge banding is at lower temperatures (between 20℃ and 40℃), temperature changes have little effect on its light aging resistance; however, at higher temperatures (60℃ to 80℃), temperature does have some impact on the light aging resistance of PVC edge banding, especially for white and light-colored PVC materials.

Furthermore, during the transportation or storage of PVC edge banding strips, container temperatures can reach as high as 75°C, which can also cause changes in the color of the PVC material. This is especially true for periods lasting one to two months, requiring edge banding strip manufacturers to strengthen temperature control. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that edge banding strips are not exposed to direct sunlight.
